Great morning in Birdwood, chilly but a little sun was peeking through to warm the ground. Both teams were ready to go early and keen for the battle to come. The start of the game was fever pitch with a very quick push forward by Hahndorf, this resulted in an early goal by Thomas Gould.
Torrens Valley responded very quickly with a strong play through the centre resulting in a goal also. At 1 all, it looked like it was going to be a high scoring game. However, what came next was quite the tussle between both sides, our team held strong with defence by Harry Wood, Noah Duggan and Jack Gaskin not letting anything through, our midfield really pushing hard – Rigby Barnes, Caleb Earley, Flynn Menzies, Louis Moran and Sonjae Cook all working so well with strong and direct passing to Eli Parkyn and Gould who continued to make strikes on goal.
The Torrens Valley keeper did a great job at holding them at bay, until one shot from out wide. With luck and skill on his side, Gould put another one in the back of the net.
Most of the first half of the game was in Hahndorf's forward half, meaning that Sam Griffiths in goals didn't see a lot of action. Late in the first half saw a lineup change with Oliver Ramsey coming into defence and Samuel Pearce worked well with Cook after moving to the midfield. He made his presence known with some fantastic play – not letting anything past him. Half time saw Handorf up 2-1.
Early in the second half Torrens Valley pressed hard and controlled the play, seeing Hahndorf with only 1 breakthrough early and shot on goal. All players working hard, passing exceptionally and still hungry to succeed.
The momentum of the game did change with a couple of strong defensive moves by Duggan, the ball worked through by Barnes and Earley with superior skill. Torrens Valley were working really hard and had Hahndorf bunched up in defence but couldn’t sneak through. The game ended with Hahndorf the victors 2-1.
