Hahndorf 3 v Blackwood Forest Football Club 3

The first away game of the season was met with sunny skies, and with Hahndorf missing many players, it was a difficult start. Shortly after kick off a free kick by Blackwood saw Hahndorf down by 1. This was quickly followed by another goal bringing the score to 2-0 for Blackwood. The team was able to hold Blackwood’s attack off for the next 10 minutes, with Logan Maxwell leading the defense and Charlisa Franklin making sure no goals got through. Meanwhile in attack, great chances were created by Harry Gould with the first shot being taken by Charlie Zorkovic. However, Blackwood responded with another goal, now leading by 3. Hahndorf kept fighting on with chances being created by George Papakostas and Toby Thomas. Orlando Gray and Jacob Gerber made sure the ball stayed out of the box during Blackwood’s attacks. After many freekicks gave Hahndorf more chances to score, a great corner near the end of the first half from Gould which was scored by Zorkovic gave the team hope.

As the second half began, the team was filled with motivation from their coach. Jet Zahra and Maxwell kept a tight defensive line, with great defending to keep Blackwood from taking a shot. After the ball was played up by the midfield, Thomas and Gould where quick to create attacking opportunities, with Oliver Combe taking shots to trouble the keeper. When possession was lost, Zahra and Papakostas made sure to put in good tackles to win the ball. Daniel Peters gave the team more options out wide, as well as Thomas, who created space in the attack. The 65th minute gave Hahndorf another opportunity to score, with another corner from Gould, leading to a far post header from Peters to bring Hahndorf to 3-2. The teams spirits were higher than ever, with everyone being determined to keep scoring. This lead to many more attacks during the last 5 minutes, and after a shot deflected by Blackwood, Andrew Mckenzie positioned to shoot and score the equaliser for Hahndorf. As the final minutes approached, some great defending from Maxwell and Gray kept Blackwood at bay until the final whistle blew. The game ended 3-3 earning Hahndorf their first point of the season.
